Alpha Encourages Healthcare Coverage
In the words of Brother Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a speech to the Medical Committee for Human Rights in 1966, “of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. strongly supports the Affordable Care Act, also known, as ObamaCare. There are 48 million uninsured people in the United States and more than half are people of color. African-Americans are twice as likely to have high blood pressure, are at a higher risk for prostate cancer and glaucoma and are less likely to receive preventive care, as compared with other Americans.
This landmark legislation will help reduce some of these disparities by providing access to affordable health insurance coverage. [ READ MORE HERE ]
