FIRST OF ALL, SERVANTS OF ALL, WE SHALL TRANSCEND ALL
About the Eastern Region
Comprising over 18,500 brothers, the Eastern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity has become a shining example of what is known as the “work of Alpha.” Chapters within the region have supported community groups, provided scholarships to African American youth, and created non-profit organizations to support the community. The region comprises seven districts that cover eleven states – Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Virginia – Washington D.C., and the international areas of Bermuda, Germany, Liberia, South Africa and the United Kingdom (London). The members of the region have founded organizations and universities. They have changed the course of African American history through their work in the Civil Rights movement. The work carried out by members and chapters in the Eastern Region has truly come to embody its motto, “First of All, Leading the Way.”
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence, while providing service and advocacy for our communities.
National Programs
The fraternity’s national programs are community outreach mentoring initiatives that have been adopted by the organization’s governing body and mandated for implementation by all of its chapters.

Special Initiatives
Alpha Phi Alpha’s special Initiatives are programs and activities that are sustained through collaborative efforts, memoranda of understanding, and/or outside financial assistance, which Alpha chapters are encouraged to implement.

Following the arrest of our Brother, Mayor Ras Baraka, outside an ICE detention center, Brothers of the Alpha Alpha Lambda Chapter and the Eastern Region were joined by Eastern Regional Vice President Brother Christopher Ellis to mobilize in Newark to continue to protest and demand his release.
We stand in solidarity with Mayor Baraka and all those who peacefully challenge injustice.
In alignment with our mission of service and advocacy, AlphaEast has launched “We Lead. We Read.” A region-wide campaign promoting literacy and community engagement.
Yesterday’s kickoff featured Bro. Christopher Ellis, Eastern Regional Vice President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., alongside First Lady Andrea Ellis and their daughter Nicole, reading to her kindergarten class at the Albany Academies. Brothers across the region are engaging in this literacy campaign for the entire month of May. 📚
Through reading sessions and book donations, Alpha men are stepping up as role models to inspire a love for reading and help close the literacy gap in our communities. 🏡
Literacy is more than reading, it’s foundation for empowerment.
